Most people are good candidates for dental implants regardless of their age. If you are in good health and wish to permanently replace a missing a tooth, or teeth, there is a very good chance dental implants are the ideal solution for you. If you’ve experienced bone loss in the area where your teeth are missing you may require some pre-surgical bone grafting to improve the health and density of the bone necessary to support your implants. If you are a smoker it is likely you will experience less successful outcome with your dental implants. Once you’ve lost a tooth, your jawbone begins to degrade. The tooth roots in your mouth stimulate blood flow to that bone tissue and without the root your body dissolves bone tissue it sees as no longer necessary. Teeth surrounding the edentulous space (where the missing tooth was) will begin to shift and drift into the gap and your bite will change. The sooner a dental implant, or tooth root replacement, can be placed, the sooner these conditions can be arrested. Implants are designed to last a lifetime as a permanent replace for your missing tooth’s root and as a support structure for the crown that will look and feel exactly like your natural teeth.

Your denture experience can be dramatically improved with dental implants! An implant-supported denture is fitted with snaps that are positioned to click onto the connecting snap that is attached to the dental implants. Where regular dentures rest directly on the gums secured only with adhesive, your implant supported dentures are locked into place on the root like structure of the implants. Most patients experience a dramatic improvement in their comfort level with implant supported dentures and can confidently enjoy foods they have not been able to eat for years! An implant-supported denture can, and should, be removed daily to clean the denture and your gum area around the implants. Some patients prefer to have fixed crown and bridgework supported by implants that are not removable.
